Jan 07, 2021 · George Baxter, (born July 31, 1804, Lewes, Sussex, England—died January 11, 1867, Sydenham, Kent), English engraver and printer who invented a process (patented 1835) of colour printing that made reproductions of paintings available on a mass scale. He was the son of John Baxter (1781–1858), printer and publisher at Lewes, who issued the popular illustrated “Baxter” Bible.
