George Harvey (1800-1878) was an English-born artist whose series of “atmospheric landscapes” depicting 1830’s America was widely heralded for its originality and stunning imagery. Cited by the New York Times as “one of our best watercolorists,” Harvey was also critically praised for his floral still lifes, and his miniature views of the city of Boston were a staple of many New England collections.
This piece was hand painted by G. Harvey in his home studio in 1988, and is one-of-a-kind. It was never published as a limited edition. It was purchased from The Thomas Gilcrease Musuem in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the American Art in Miniature Exhibit in December 1988. This original oil on board is in like-new condition.
