George Wright was born in Annan, the second of three sons, and attended Annan Public School before being apprenticed to a local painter, decorator and sign writer, John Clemenson. Wright showed an early talent for landscape painting and was inspired by visits to Italy, Constantinople and Norway, but his best work is of Scotland’s hills and rivers.

George Wright (1851-1916) was born in Annan the second son of John and Margaret Wright, and attended Annan Public School before being apprenticed to local painter, decorator and sign writer John Clemenson. As with numerous artists of his time he was particularly inspired by his visits to Italy and Constantinople, but also produced some beautiful scenes of the Norwegian Fjords.

Jan 10, 2008 · George Wright was an artist who lived in Annan for many years. This sketchbook was given to a young child to draw on in the 1920’s. This wee girl is now a grandmother and has kindly allowed me to copy the book and make the images available on-line. Thankfully her mother saw the significance of the book and did not allow her to draw in the book.Views: 294

George Wright, Jr. is an American Artist born and raised in Cambridge, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
