George Wright began his career as an illustrator and had his first exhibit at the Royal Academy in 1892. He had moved from his native Leeds to Rugby by 1901, where he painted many of his well known polo pictures. By 1908, Wright was living in Oxford; and in 1929 he moved to Richmond, Surrey where he hunted with the Surrey and Old Burstow.
