Nov 04, 2016 · There were three artists who marked this part of German art history - a sculptor Gottfried Schadow (1764–1850) and two painters, Anton Raphael Mengs (1728–79) and Asmus Jacob Carstens (1754–98). Mengs was the absolute star of the three as he established the vocabulary of an early Neo-Classical style in Germany.
