GINO EMILIO CONTI. American, 1900-1983. BIOGRAPHY. Born in Barga, Italy in 1900, Conti emigrated with his parents to Providence, Rhode Island in 1903. Upon graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1923, he was awarded two scholarships to study in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts in Fontainebleau and the Académie Julian in Paris. Artist Gino E. Conti (1900-a.1982) was born in Italy, came to America at the age of two, was raised in a working-class Providence family, attended the Rhode Island School of Design on scholarship, and graduated in 1923. He then studied painting in France, and spent over two years in an Italian monastery.

Gino Conti: RI Artist Revealed Students in URI's Art History Seminar have organized this exhibition of the works of Rhode Island artist Gino Emilio Conti (1900-1983). Raised in Providence, Conti had a long and successful career as artist and teacher, and was commissioned for many public projects -- including the murals that still in the lobby of Edwards Hall.
