Aug 31, 2011 · the graphite needs to be sealed off from the pastel and the fix creates a tooth over it . – allow 10-15 min drying time between layers . vine or willow charcoal (soft) is much better to use under pastel and needs only a few layers of fix if you need to have it to build/complete your painting .
