In 1996, a group of New York City artists, educators, and activists founded Groundswell with the belief that collaborative art-making combines personal expression with the strength of community activism—and produces unique and powerful outcomes.
Groundswell activates public spaces to generate hospitality, artistry and agency. Artworks are generated within studios found within nature, public thoroughfares, health and cultural environments. Festivals and celebrations feature bespoke events that bring art to people in social gatherings.
