Born in Brooklyn in 1913, the son of Eastern European Jewish immigrants, Gustave Kaitz started painting professionally as a young man selling his Art Deco originals to Gimbel’s and Fortunoff department stores, and Greenwich Village galleries. Gustave studied painting at the School of Art at Cooper Union and philosophy at Brooklyn College.
