Henry Hadfield Cubley specialised in Welsh and Scottish mountain landscapes, often romanticized and featuring highland cattle. The pictures shown here were used on some of Raphael Tuck's postcards. He was born around 1850 in Newark and grew up there. He painted many countryside scenes in what is now the West Midlands, including the paintings of Wolverhampton that are shown here.

Henry Hadfield Cubley was born in Newark, and was the nephew of William Cubley. In 1888 he moved to Matlock Bath, Derbys., exhibiting his work at the Royal Academy the previous year. One of his paintings, Valley of the Derwent was exhibited in Nottingham in 1895. He last exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1902.
