Charles Obas was born in Plaisance, in the northern of Haiti in 1927. He died in 1969. Obas’ artistic career began at the Art Center in 1948, which he left two years later to found the Hall of Plastic Arts. His work is exhibited in Haiti, the United States and South America. He won a First Prize at the ONT Competition in 1958.

Charles Obas was born on February 10, 1927 in Plaisance, Haiti. He completed his studies at Notre Dame du Cap Haitien. At the age of 13 he was encouraged by his father to paint. In 1948, he joined the Centre d’Art where he taught classes in primitive art.
