Jul 02, 1968 · Sir Wilhelm Ernst Hans Franz Heysen (1877-1968), artist, was born on 8 October 1877 in Hamburg, Germany, sixth child of Louis Heinrich Wilhelm Heysen and his wife Maria Elisabeth Henriette, née Eberhard. Louis migrated to South Australia in 1883 and his wife followed with the five surviving children next year.

Biography Hans Heysen migrated to Australia with his family from Germany in 1884 and took up art studies from a young age. From 1889, he studied in Europe, at the Academic Julian and Colarossi in Paris and travelled through Italy in 1903 before returning to Adelaide.
