Bugbee was born in Lexington, Massachusettts and in 1914 moved to the Texas Panhandle near Clarendon, Texas. Bugbee began sketching ranch life hoping to preserve a vanishing way of life in history which many were scenes he experienced personally. Charles M. Russell was his role model.
