Henry was the younger brother of the artist William Barraud and came from a family of seventeen children. Barraud distinguished himself as a portraitist and a sporting artist in the mid 19th century. He received his training from the portrait and topographical painter, J.J. Middleton and shared a studio in London with William from 1835 until William's death in 1850.
