Dec 23, 2020 · Mr Purdy moved to PEI in 1958 to start an art department at CFCY TV. He kept painting and began teaching art in 1964. He wasn’t a starving artist for long - he said people have often asked his wife, Gertie, over the years, “Yes, but what does he do for a living?”

Henry C. Purdy (b. 1937), born in Nova Scotia, is a professional visual artist who has been working on Prince Edward Island for more than 50 years. He was elected into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1978. Jul 15, 2015 · Mr Purdy has been working as a professional artist on PEI for 57 years, when he first moved here from Halifax for a job with CFCY television in 1958. The PEI 1967 Centennial Medal for painting and sculpture and the PEI 1973 Centennial Arts Medal are among his accolades, as well as induction into the Order of Canada in 2001 and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002.Author: Luke Kenny
