John Frederick Herring Senior was one of the most successful English animal painters in the mid-19th century. In 1840 and 1841 he painted several paintings for the son of the French king Louis-Phillipe during a visit to Paris at the invitation of the Duc d´Orleans. In 1845 Herring created animal paintings fo the Duchess of Kent.
