In the late 1940s Hill End was discovered by artists Russell Drysdale, who painted possibly his best-known work, The cricketers there, and Donald Friend, and it quickly became an artists' colony. Visual artists, writers/curators, musicians, new media/film/video artists are all encouraged to apply for residencies at Hill End. Successful applicants spend 4 weeks living and working in either Haefligers Cottage or Murrays Cottage. Due to COVID, the majority of artists selected for 2020 Hill End AIR Program have been postponed to 2021. Consequently, there will be no submissions in 2021.
