Nov 12, 2007 · Hou Yimin. It's a detail of his larger painting, "Chairman Mao and the Coal Miners of Anyuan". You can see it on this page about him (scroll down, 3rd painting down on the left); unfortunately it is very slow loading. Whoever said Andy Warhol was definitely pulling your leg.

Artist Hou Yimin made several trips to Anyuan, to study the mines and to find models for the workers he would portray. Liu Shaoqi is in the center of the composition, standing out as determined leader. Around him, the coal miners are portrayed more realistically and individually than in similar paintings of the time.
