Ida Abelman, printmaker, muralist, painter, was known for the graphic work that she produced for the various Federal Art Projects in New York during the Depression. Heavily influenced by Surrealism, Constructivism, and Social Realism, Abelman’s work often reflects the world around her during the turbulent Depression and World War II eras.

Born in New York, NY in 1910, Ida Abelman studied at the Grand Central Art School, the National Academy School of Fine Arts, the City College of the City of New York and at Hunter College under lithographer, Joe Miller. She was a member of the American Artists Congress and she completed numerous projects for the Federal Arts Projects and the Works Progress Administration.
