In the mid- 1960 s Jack Earl was introduced to the world of European figurative ceramics through illustrated books in the Toledo Museum of Art’s library. An art education and ceramics teacher at the museum, he was particularly attracted by the Watteau-like, painted porcelain figurines manufactured at Meissen during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.Born: Aug 02, 1934

Jack Earl was born in Uniopolis, Ohio in 1934. He graduated from Bluffton University with a major in ceramics, then received a Masters in ceramics from The Ohio State University. After graduating, Earl taught at the Art Institute at the Toldeo Museum of Art, and later accepted a position at Virginia Commonwealth University.
