M allica Reynolds was born on February 10, 1911 in the district of Byndloss, St. Catherine. His career as an artist began in the 1930s. ‘Kapo’ as he was more popularly called was a self-taught artist. He was more popularly known for his painting but he was also a sculptor.

A self-taught artist, Kapo is considered one of the leaders of Jamaica’s ‘Intuitive’ art movement. Kapo became the first artist to have a gallery solely featuring his work within the National Gallery of Jamaica, in 1983. He was awarded the Musgrave Gold Medal and received the Order of Distinction.
