James Allen was Printmaker in Residence at the Arts Council of Northern Ireland from. 1977 – 1980, and a full time manager of Belfast Print Workshop from 1980. His work is in the collections of international museums and companies, including the Arts Council of Great Britain, Queen’s University of Belfast, and the Telfair Museum of Georgia, USA. James Allen RUA James Allen studied art in Belfast and Brighton and went on to teach art at Goldsmiths School of Art in London. He returned to Northern Ireland to help establish the Belfast Print Workshop and has been a renowned print maker and painter for many decades. He has exhibited widely, including in Japan in 2019.

James is the current Chair of the Belfast Print Workshop and has been a member since 1977. James Allen was born in Lurgan, County Armagh. He studied at Belfast College of Art from 1961 – 1965 and at Brighton College of Art from 1965 – 1967. Teaching positions at Goldsmiths School of Art, London (1967 – 1970) and Ravensbourne College of Art, London (1973 – 76) followed.

Artists James Allen James works in oil on small canvas boards. He enjoys capturing East Anglian landscapes & seascapes the view that he has spent his life enjoying. James was born in Framlingham, Suffolk and is the youngest son of one of the town's butchers. He has, from an early age, had a keen interest in sketching both landscape and wild life.
