I was born in 1946 and raised on the family farm near Boggabri, northern NSW. I attended the local bush school before moving to The Armidale School. Here I came under the influence of Fred Roberts, who introduced me to the possibilities of art.

He was a finalist in the 2010 Country Energy Art Prize. In 1994, he became a Visual Arts teacher at the Armidale School, until he retired in 2013. James White has been a member of the Australian Watercolour Institute since 1991.
