James Wright was a landscape and figure painter who lived in Glasgow and Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire. He was elected to the Royal Scottish Society of Watercolour Artists in 1920 and showed extensively, including 57 works at the Glasgow Institute, 3 at the Royal Academy, 36 at the Royal Scottish Academy and 82 at the RSW.
