Born in Lexington Kentucky, Jan moved to Southern California as an infant with her actor father and musician mother. Visits with her father to movie studios and various film locations gave the young artist enormous insight into how fantasy is created. She learned that illusion is often more effective in conveying a feeling than stark reality.
