Throughout most of the past four decades carving was the continuum that compelled my explorations forward, with clay and with wood. This web site has a newly updated section that presents carved porcelain work that was completed between 1985 to 1995. These pieces are now released from my collection and are available for purchase.

Jacobson produced functional pottery during the 1970 s, but in the mid-1980 s began to focus less on the practical uses of her pots, treating them as surfaces for her carved reliefs of animals and plants. She was first encouraged to carve on her pots while studying at the Pond Farm studio in California with Marguerite Wildenhain, but it was almost ten years before that became the focus of her work.Born: Dec 21, 1950

William L. Janelle - ABOUT. I am a self-taught sculptor who works primarily in wood. I grew up in Saco, Maine and been carving for over forty years. As a subtractive sculptor, I take away from a single block with hand tools, often leaving tool marks behind as a sort of fingerprint. My preferences of wood are apple, cherry, butternut and walnut.
