Bio: Janis is a native Californian who found herself living in New Mexico in the mid 1990's.She was drawn to the dramatic landscape of New Mexico and began taking pastel classes from Deborah Christiansen Secor and Albert Handell. She studied Bob Rohm, Clark Mitchell, Gill Dellinger and more recently with Richard McKinley.

Janis has been a professional working artist and instructor for over 20 years. She began as a child, drawing on any scrap of paper she could find and went on to major in Art in college. Her father convinced her to become a teacher, because, as he said, she would always have a job!

An accomplished pastel artist who loves to paint en plein air, Janis is now settled into the Visual Artists directory at the Southern Oregon Artists Resource. We celebrate with her as she prepares to travel to Stockton, CA for the opening reception of the Pastels USA PSWC 25th International Show, into which her beautiful painting, "Los Carneros Evening," was juried.
