Description: John Austin Sands Monks (Massachusetts, 1850-1917), Farmyard with Sheep, oil on canvas, signed lower right "J.A.S. Monks," measures 12.5x20.5 inches, overall 18.5x27 framed. CONDITION: Good restored condition, touchup to the left-middle bottom of the painting and again in the upper middle left portion of the sky above the houses.

John Austin Sands Monks 'J. A. S. Monks': A nineteenth century American painter and etcher, John Austin Sands Monks studied art in New York under George Inness. These two artists shared the same studio for many years. Monks devoted his art almost exclusively to animal depictions, particularly sheep.
