Cook began his fine art career in 1990 at the age of 49, inspired early by the paintings of Russian- American artist Nicolai Fechin. Later influences include artist John Singer Sargent, Frank Brangwyn and Winslow Homer, as well as the still lifes and florals of Henry Fatin Latour.

John Cook was born in Halifax, 1918. He began painting overseas during the Second World War while serving with the Canadian Army Signal Corps. Later he studied at the Slade School, England, and the Nova Scotia College of Art and at the Academie des Beaux-Arts, Antwerp, Belgium. Mr Cook painted in the realistic style.

Born in Sheffield in 1929 and raised in Stoke-on-Trent, John Cooke used his period of national service in the RAF to search out evening classes at art schools wherever he was stationed. Demobbed in 1949, he enrolled in Stoke College of Art where he developed his meticulous technique and distinctive style.
