After more than 40 years of working in commercial art, John and his wife, Darlene, retired to their summer house on Washington Island in 1997. His studio in Chicago specialized in food. He took a one-year break, then started painting for fun: seascapes, landscapes and people. John works in charcoal, pen and ink, watercolor, acrylic, and oil.
