JOHN LOCHTEFELD. John first visited Nantucket in 1968; since then he has been a year-round resident, owning and operating the John F. Lochtefeld Studio-Gallery since 1969, now located at 4 Fair Street. John joined the Nantucket Artist's Association in 1969 and he thinks he may be the oldest active exhibiting member as well as being a member of their Board of Directors Emeritus.

An artist member, and current board member, of the Artists Association of Nantucket for more than 40 years, Lochtefeld said the work he may be best known for are his woodcuts. Made from impressions carved in blocks of wood and printed onto paper, the artist’s scenes are often dreamlike and depict many fanciful, almost mythological elements.
