John W. Rhoden (1916-2001) was a Birmingham-born, Brooklyn based sculptor whose talent won him accolades and took him around the world. Rhoden was the first African American visual artist fellow at the American Academy in Rome and traveled Europe, Asia and Africa supported by fellowships from Fulbright, Rockefeller, and Guggenheim foundations.
