Nov 19, 2012 · In October 1990, the sculpture “The Student Body,” by artist Julia Balk, was installed in front of Davis Library. Almost immediately some UNC students expressed disapproval of some of the statues, which they believed promoted racial and gender stereotypes.

Westchester County Vietnam Veterans Memorial

The Jaycees and the Westchester-Putnam chapter of the Vietnam Veterans commissioned local artist Julia Cohen (now Balk) to design the sculpture and started a fund raising effort to pay for it. The Westchester County Executive Andrew O'Rourke approved the siting of the memorial on the newly acquired 207 acre estate of William and Mildred Lasdon.
