Kanita Sim Growing up in Thailand, Kanita was surrounded by strong colours, especially in the surroundings of her parents silk factory in Bangkok. Her mother was a successful colourist and it seems that this early influence of colour and fabric has heavily influenced her work.

Born in Thailand, Kanita grew up surrounded by the vibrant colours of the gorgeous Thai silks which were produced in her parents’ Thai silk factory in Bangkok. Coming to Scotland initially to study English, Kanita found her way to Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, where she studied textile design.
