He was the oldest son of Wiley Wilson Wolfe and Elizabeth Heuck. He attended Soule Business College in New Orleans and later attended the Art Institute of Chicago, where he graduated in 1928.

Karl and Mildred Nungester Wolfe. Karl and Mildred Nungester Wolfe were each exceptionally well-trained artists when they moved to Mississippi after World War II. Both had won major prizes for their work and were exhibiting widely. They established their studio in1946, at the present location which was then outside the City of Jackson.
