Kathleen Margaret Sauerbier was born on 21 January 1903 to John James Sauerbier and Mary Anne Louisa Locke who were married on 27 February 1902 at the Brighton Inn. At the age of 14 Kathleen was attending St Peter’s Girls School in Adelaide. She did well and had several short stories published in the school’s magazine.
