Carl Rudolph Krafft was born in 1884 in Reading, Ohio. His artistic training began in the early 1900s at the Art Institute of Chicago. He enrolled in both day and evening courses and studied with such instructors as Harry M. Walcott, Edward Vysekal, and Antonin Sterba. Kraftt became a prolific painter of landscapes and genre scenes.

He then opened his own advertising studio which he ran for several years before serving in the Army Corp of Engineers during WWII in the South Pacific.
