Kristin Gudjonsdottir was born in Reykjavik, Iceland in 1966. She came to California in 1991 as a transfer student to finish her undergraduate degree in sculpture. She graduated in 1995 with a BF degree in sculpture and glass from the California College of Arts and Crafts.
