Oct 26, 2017 · Like many Yolngu artists, Wukun Wanambi has a high profile international career. He visited London in 2013 and created larrakitj (hollow log memorial poles) for the 2015 British Museum exhibition Indigenous Australia: enduring civilisation. In 2017 he travelled to the US to work on a major forthcoming Aboriginal art exhibition.

In 1988, a group of Yolngu artists made 200 Larrakitj for Australia’s bi-centenary as memorials to an Aboriginal population decimated over 200 years as well as to assert ongoing ownership and custodianship of their lands. Larrakitj are now part of the Aboriginal artistic repertoire and we are proud to offer this rare presentation in New Zealand.
