Since I finished art school in 1972 I have been interested in the human image, how to depict the human experience and how portraits form a conversation about how we understand the world around us. Issues of identity, depicting the lives of women, how we read faces (perception), the communication of feeling, are some of the issues that interest me.

Leeanne Crisp was born in Adelaide, where she attended the SA School of Art and gained an advanced diploma from the Western Teacher's College in 1972. She held her first solo exhibition in 1977 at Canberra's Solander gallery.
