Leo Vernon Bensemann OBE (1 May 1912 – 2 January 1986) was a New Zealand artist, printer, typographer, publisher and editor. He was born in Takaka, New Zealand, on 1 May 1912. Bensemenn moved to Christchurch in 1931 with his friend Lawrence Baigent.

Leo Vernon Bensemann was born in Takaka, Golden Bay, on 1 May 1912, the son of Vernon Victor Bensemann, a blacksmith, and his wife, Ruby Arnold.

Descended from German immigrants, Leo Bensemann was born in Takaka in 1912. He attended evening art classes in the early 1930s although he is largely considered a self-taught artist. He had a long career with the Caxton Press Club where he worked as a typographer and graphic designer.

11 February – 22 February 2011. A comprehensive retrospective of the influential Canterbury artist and designer Leo Bensemann, who was at the centre of a dynamic revival in New Zealand art in the mid-twentieth century. This exhibition was originally scheduled to run from 11 February until 15 May 2011. Unfortunately its run was ended by the 22 February Christchurch earthquake.
