American composer Leonard Rosenman first studied to be a painter, but after serving with the Air Force in WW II, he became more interested in music, and became the protégé of distinguished avant-garde composer Arnold Schoenberg. Rosenman won Academy Awards for his adapted scores for Barry Lyndon (1975) and Bound for Glory (1976).
