He is the Honorable Laureate Maitre Artiste Afewerk Tekle. He was born in the North Shoa town of Ankober in October, 1932. At school he demonstrated a gift for mathematics and drawing and in 1947 was sent to England to study mining engineering. His artistic interests and talent, however, led him to drop engineering and pursue studies in art.
