Jan 04, 2013 · Mac Zimmermann was a painter, a graphic artist and one of the most important representatives of Surrealism in Germany. The artist was born in Wasserburg but in 1934 he moved to Hamburg where he worked as an illustrator, press writer, stage designer, and a drawing school teacher.

Mac Zimmermann (1912 - 1995) was active/lived in Germany. Mac Zimmermann is known for Surreal figurative painting. Born in Stettin, Mac Zimmermann began to study at the Szczecin factory school for formative work in 1930, after having taken drawing classes. In 1934, he moved to Hamburg, where he worked as a set designer, illustrator and draftsman.

Mac Zimmermann then moved to Berlin in 1938 to study the art of the 'Pittra metafisica' movement. His first paintings were exhibited in Berlin in 1940. With the commencement of the Second World War (1939-1945), Zimmermann was forced to abandon his experiments in painting as the National Socialist Dictatorship smothered all artistic expression.
