Apr 30, 2013 · Although the Manasquan River area was well populated with artists, painters worked along much of the New Jersey coast. As a child, Philadelphia artist Thomas Eakins began visiting Tindall’s Landing in Fairton on Cohansey Creek where his father co-owned a boathouse. He and his father swam and fished; later, Eakins also sailed and hunted.

Mona Kirk. Mona Kirk has been an artist most of her life. She paints in oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel. Her subjects include portraits, still life, landscapes, florals, and seascapes. She has been president of The Manasquan River Group of Artists three times and is a member of many art organizations, including Audubon Artists, Inc. at the Salmagundi Club in New York City.

In the 1880s artist Carrie Cook Sanborn taught classes in landscape painting during the summers at her home in Point Pleasant along the Manasquan River, a short distance from the ocean.
