Marcius-Simons was a visionary Symbolist artist, his subject matter included Gothic cathedrals, dramatic skyscapes, and heroic figures such as "Apotheosis of Joan of Arc", "Flower Fairies", "Guardian Angels" and "Parsifal and the Knights". Marcius-Simons began studying art at the age of twelve and took formal training at the Vaugirard College in Paris with J.G. Vibert (1840-1902).

Description: Marcius-Simons studied in Paris, and exhibited at the Paris salon in 1882. He also exhibited at the Salons of the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts (Paris), from 1891-94. He first painted genre scenes, but his success came later, with a series of symbolist works, emphasizing a dramatic color scheme, as seen in this example.
