Martin is a self-taught Dunedin artist. He was inspired in his early 20s to give painting a go, after meeting someone who was painting copies of Rembrandt’s works. His Influences have been varied: Henry Rousseau and Van Gogh at the beginning, the impressionists, cubism, the expressionists, abstract art, Australian artists like William Dobell, Sali Herman, and others.
