A stroke forced her retirement, and in November 2013 the sale of her home at 1107 W7th Ave., Vancouver, BC. I helped Rory Filer with the sale of some of her other artwork at that time.

Mary Filer (b. 1920, Edmonton, AB) is known for her pioneering work in glass art. She creates large-scale sculptural glass works by laminating coloured and clear planar glass to form both geometric and fluid compositions; the resulting works are infused with her deep interest in painting, architecture and landscape. During the 1950s, Filer taught university art in Canada and the United States.

Initially trained as a watercolour painter under John Lyman and Group of Seven artist Arthur Lismer, she was also a pioneer in stained glass sculpture.
