The artist’s second formative trip was to Italy, from 1965 to 1968, when he received a grant from the Lebanese government to study at The Accademia di Belle Arti of Rome. As in India, Marzouk drew inspiration from his surroundings, representing local subjects –streets, cafés, marketplaces, people– through his unique personal lens.
