Maude Marshall was an animal painter and studied at the Glasgow School of Art and Frank Calderon's School of Animal Painting. During the First World War she was commissioned by the Imperial War Museum to paint horses, and was Director of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, raising money to treat injured horses.
